Description Edit

This video was shot at the Hamburg Turnpike grade crossing in West Milford, New Jersey

This is my 3 trip back to this crossing and nothing much has changed, execpt for the mast signal facing me, it's strobe lights were replaced with newer red strobes, the old ones were white and didn't work too well.

  • History note*: Back in the 1970's, this crossing had a wigwag. These signals were installed in 1986 when this section of the line was rebuilt following a washout during a storm. The wig-wag was replaced.

Crossing Info:

Mast Signal on Right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12X24 inch lights. 1 pair of WC Hayes 8 inch strobe lights.

There is also 1 unknown light which displays the words "Stop Here" when the signal are active.

Cantilever Signal on Left: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights and a Safetran mechanical bell.

Cantilever Signal on Left (across tracks): 5 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights. 1 Pair of WC Hayes 8 inch strobe lights, and a Safetran Mechanical Bell.

The reason why this crossing has strobe lights is because, there used to be trees that blocked the view of the crossing. Then the trees were cut down, but the railroad never removed the lights

Enjoy!

Special thanks to my railfanning buddy Kyle for joining me at this crossing.
